Preschool 1 Week 8- Dentist

This week the girls had a dentist appointment. It was Charlee’s first time. They both did awesome! I didn’t get any pictures because I had my hands so full trying to keep the both of them contained. Even though they both fight to have their teeth brushed at home they just open up for their dentist. Millie kept squealing she was so excited.

Unfortunately Millie’s enamel didn’t form properly on some of her teeth so she is going to have to have a procedure done next month. They are going to put her to sleep and put silver caps over her teeth. I had the same thing done as a child. Fingers crossed she does ok. We have explained it to her and she is just excited to go to the dentist.

Ooooo slime

As far as school business, we started our week with some edible slime. Charlee loved it. It was a little sticky for Millie. Textures like that really bother her. So it was good she gave it a quick try.

A mouth and toothbrush

We also talked about dentists! Millie made her own mouth of teeth and I drew a toothbrush and she cut along the lines for bristles. She loves scissor work and she’s getting pretty good at it too!

Coloring

The girls also colored some pictures of monsters brushing their teeth. Charlee loves to color. Millie would much rather make something by herself but since Charlee has been coloring Millie will join in.

Oh deer!

We also had fun watching wildlife in our yard this week. These 5 deer snacked on our lawn several days.

Millie hammering

Millie also got to spend a lot of time with Dad working in the shop. She loves it. She has been having a really hard time listening so while she is spending a lot of time in time out, we are also trying to make an extra effort to spend more time with her. I’m really hoping it helps because we are going a little crazy!

Milkshake

Saturday Millie went and got the milkshake she had been saving up for. She also picked out a little toy alien from the thrift store. It copies everything she says. It is basically her new best friend.

Preschool 1 Week 7- Haircut

This week’s theme is kind of random. Millie hasn’t ever had a haircut and she didn’t get one this week. Lol. She just loves haircuts and things with a “bad hair day” theme. I don’t know why but she’s obsessed with bad hair days.

Uh oh he’s having a bad hair day!

So I made Millie this little paper head with paper hair for her to cut. I got the idea from Caitie’s Classroom. So we watched that episode this week too. Anyway, Millie loved the craft so much!!

Nice haircut!

She loved it so much she said we had to make our entire family. We only had mostly orange paper left so we are all orange. Conrad was so nice and helped her make them.

Fun making more haircuts with dad

We also read “Fancy Nancy Hair Dos and Hair Don’ts”. Overall it was just a fun week doing scissor work.

Pumpkin Patch

We also went to the farm again. It might be the last time. They close after Halloween and they are so busy every day now! The girls have had so much fun!

Preschool 1 Week 6- Family

This week I mostly wanted to focus on “Heavenly Father gave us families”. We read some stories from the Friend magazine about families and talked about ways family members help each other. We looked at pictures of her with her grandparents, great grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. I asked her what her favorite part of being in a family is and she said “hugs”.

Millie’s family

For our craft we build a popsicle stick house. I told her to draw her family inside the house. She said “you draw the family” I told her she needed to draw it, and that it was her craft and she could do it how ever she wanted. I left for a few minutes and then Millie called me back to tell me she was done.

“I drew a circle!”

“Don’t you want to draw your family to live in the nice house?”

“No. A circle will do.”

Girls on their “lily pads”

Music class was so fun this week. The girls did great. Millie listened better.

Millie playing the drum with classmates

We went to the farm again. I’m just trying to get my moneys worth from my season pass.

This time one of my very best friends and her daughter came along and it was a blast!

Corn maze pt. 2

We finished the week off with a Halloween sensory bin leftover from last year. It’s full of dry black beans and little Halloween toys.

Charlee checking it out.

“Eyeball” bouncy ball
So fun yay!

Preschool 1 Week 5- Germs

I had planned this lesson to be this week about a month ago. It just so happened the girls were sick with a cold this week. Go figure.

We have talked to Millie about germs a lot but she didn’t seem to understand or care to understand so I tried to use a lot of videos.

We watched “Staying Clean and Healthy” Caitie’s Classroom and Magic School Bus where Ralphy gets sick.

We read “Curious George Discovers Germs” and “Germs are Not for Sharing”. Along with Usebourne “Peek Inside” and “Look Inside” the Human Body which talks about fighting germs.

We had to stay home from music class because of the runny noses so we talked about not getting other people sick.

Millie with her haircut creation

We did a lot of coloring and iPad work. Khan Academy Kids is awesome.

For our craft we got a bowl full of water and sprinkled pepper into it. I had Millie dip her finger into it, when she pulled it out it was covered in pepper. Then we put dish soap on her finger and dipped it in the bowl and all the pepper “ran away”. This time her finger came out clean. We talked about how the pepper is like germs and soap kills the germs. Talked about the importance of washing hands and how to do it really well so we can get all the germs.

Preschool 1 Week 4-Fall!

Millie’s scarecrow craft!

Fall official started this week! Finally. I am sad about summer ending but Millie has been so excited for Fall! “Is it Fall yet? Is it Fall yet? Is it Fall yet?”

We found this scarecrow craft unopened at the thrift store. Millie and I had so much fun making it! Sadly, the company that makes them went out of business, because I would totally buy more.

Our field trip was a trip to the farm my sister works at. They have a corn maze and pumpkins and all kinds of fun stuff. And they are just down the road from where we live!

“Tractor” bikes
Big tractors and slides to play on!

The kids corn maze told the story of Spookly the Square pumpkin. The girls loved it!

The girls checking out Spookly!

They were running from panel to panel!

Hurry sis!

I had some trouble getting them to move from activity to activity. Everything we did Millie wanted to stay there forever. But after the corn maze I asked if Millie wanted a drink she was like “YES”. So she came willingly.

Apple cider in cute apple and pumpkin cups
Donuts!

They had apple and pumpkin donuts. They were so good. I’m dreaming of them right now. I also got an apple slushee that was delicious.

“Hayride”

We finished with a ride to the pumpkin patch. They called it a hayride but there was no hay. Which is fine by me. Charlee was scared of it. She fussed the whole time.

Millie picked her pumpkin
Charlee found hers too!
Time to wash the pumpkins up
Bye bye farm

We have to go back to the farm soon! It was so fun. The weather is supposed to be rainy all next week though so I am sad. Hopefully it gets nice soon.

Millie had a bit of a rough time in music class this week. Somehow she managed to cut herself on a bell (wtheck). She was bleeding just a little bit but she was being so extra. We were singing and she was following along with the tune but instead was saying “ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch”. She acted like her hand was broken so I had to help her play her instruments. Luckily Charlee was behaving so I could tend to poor Millie.

Millie’s leaf rubbing

We ended the week with gathering some leaves from the yard and doing leaf rubbings. We didn’t get to any Fall baking yet but soon. Welcome Fall!

Preschool 1 Week 2- Pete the Cat

Pete the Cat Puppet!

This was a fun theme. The girls love Pete. We read so many Pete the Cat books. My favorite is “Pete the Cat and his Four Groovy Buttons” but I think the girls prefer “Pete the Cat I Love my White Shoes”. For one of our crafts we went outside and walked through paints the same colors as the things Pete stepped in in the book. Here is the blog I got that idea from. I didn’t get any pictures because it was too crazy. Lol.

My “lesson plan”
Notes on how it went

The girls also had their first music class! They are doing Sound Beginnings-Brown Teddy Bears. Their teacher is Miss Leslie Wilson. They got rhythm sticks as their instruments. Both girls really like it. Charlee mostly just watched this week. I couldn’t get her to stand up for any of the dances. But she was smiling most of the time! Millie was a little shy to participate too. Unfortunately, the way she copes (with a lot of things) is by whining. But it wasn’t bad at all. Excited for them to continue! It’s so fun they can be in the same class for a while.

Preschool 1 Week 1- School!/Feelings

We told Millie August 30th was the first day of school and she was all about it! We had some very fun first day of school shenanigans.

Painting a “school bus”

We did a school bus craft out of a soy milk carton. We had to paint it one day and let it dry, then glue the wheels and windows a different day.

Finished product

After the craft she wanted additional pictures.

She chose this pose
Charlee wants a picture too

I wish they were always this excited to have their pictures taken!! It was very random but very cute.

The second half of the week we talked about feelings. Like all preschoolers Millie has trouble handling her emotions. She is prone to outbursts and drama. (I mean she is my kid)

Feelings wheel
Calming strategies in the girl’s room

I found these calming strategies for a couple bucks at Target. Now when Millie is having a tantrum we encourage her to go pick a calming strategy to try. She usually won’t lol. But sometimes she does. Usually I hold up fingers and tell her they are birthday candles. She blows them out and that gets her to take deep breaths. Conrad pretends her deep breaths are blowing him away and that makes Millie laugh.

We also read the “All About Feelings” usbourne which was so awesome! It was too long for Millie’s age but we were able to do it over a couple days.

Of course there were also lots of songs and books.

Here are my lesson plans and notes for both themes.

Preschool 1 Week 3- Dance

This week in Millie’s preschool we did a dance theme. Millie had a really rough week this week. She was just very grumpy for some reason. I think it had to do with Charlee being more interested in playing, which means Millie had to share more. Which is hard for me even as an adult, so I’m sure it’s hard for her. That being said, we didn’t get a whole lot done this week.

Dancing ribbon wand!

We did get our craft done on Monday though and both girls loved it! It was so fun! I did my example wand the night before. When I showed the girls mine they were very excited to make their own.

Millie was happy to show off for a picture.
Going crazy in the kitchen.
Dance episode of Caitie’s Classroom.

After we danced around for a while I turned on the dance episode of Caitie’s Classroom on YouTube. Millie is not in the picture because she was in timeout. For some reason she wanted all the wands to be put away and wouldn’t quit taking Charlee’s away.

We didn’t do much else this week. I just focused on surviving and trying to spend extra time with Millie. But the wands are awesome and we are still playing with them!

The Perfect Hike August 2021

Deception Pass! This was my fourth time there. Second time there to hike. I had E and both girls with me. This was such a beautiful day. Even though the girls got cranky at some points, I actually was completely prepared and everything went so smoothly!

We started at Rosario Beach. I actually got to read the story of the maiden on the panels this time and it was so cool! Here is a link to the legend.

Just a little walk away is a pretty overlook. Millie just wanted to be silly. These pictures of her funny faces make me laugh every time. She is such a goofball.

E looking like a babe

E climbed all round the rocks at the lookout. We were the only people there which was so nice.

Tide pool with sea urchins

We found some tide pools there! Not all of them were exposed because the tide was too high. But it was set up very well with a rope to follow so you don’t step on any of the wildlife.

We took a couple more pictures before we started our hike to Bowman Bay. It’s not too long but it was the most elevation gain Millie has ever done. There’s a little bit of a drop off over the edge but Millie was a champ and held hands the whole time which was such a relief!

E on the way to Bowman Bay
Millie on the beach at Bowman Bay
E and Millie about to swim!

Millie is lucky to have a cool aunt to get in the cold water with her. Charlee and I couldn’t hang! So we hiked back to Rosario Beach to get the car while E and M swam.

E and M on the beach. If you squint you can see them.

Here are some pictures from the trail on the way back to the car:

C and I drove over to Bowman Bay to pick up E and M. We couldn’t park right by where E and M were so my sister had quite the task of dragging Millie out of the water, but she managed it! Even when it’s cold M would stay in the water ALL DAY. I can tell when she is starting to get cold because she will say “I’m not cold mom, we don’t need to go home” even though I haven’t said anything.

We all got into the car and drove across the awesome bridge onto Widbey island and got McDonalds drive through. The kids ate and fell asleep on the way home. We were home by 2pm and it was a perfect day.

Hike September 2021

Millie looks at a large uprooted tree.

We went to a trail nearby our house. It was a reserve with a lot of trails actually, I thought I had chosen a short trail.

It had been a crazy day. I woke up at 4:50am to workout and shower before the girls woke up. At 8am I taught a writing lesson to my sister E. She is homeschooled and living with us. I tried to get Charlee down for a nap before the girls’ music class but she was just so grumpy and wouldn’t stop crying. Boy oh boy Millie was having a morning too. I was hoping music class would be a reset for them, but no luck. Millie just wanted to chew on her sock for some reason so I took it off but she just chewed on her big toe instead.

Later in the afternoon there was so much whining. I decided to go ahead and try going on a walk anyway, hoping it might cheer the girls up and help me cool down too.

Now back to where I started. I thought I had chosen a short trail so I let Charlee out of the baby carrier to walk.

Charlee is so excited to be walking with the big kids.

This was the kind of trail with plaques with nature facts of them and Charlee was way more interested in touching those than walking. I said “yeah Charlee, a plaque” then she wouldn’t stop saying it “a pack! A pack!”. When I realized the trail was longer than I originally thought I tried to put her in the baby carrier but she wasn’t having it.

On the other hand, Millie ran almost the entire first mile. E was with me so we each just took a kid. I was so glad Millie was getting so much exercise. I was beginning to think this is just what she needed to get her out of her bad mood.

Just a short break on a very small rock.

Well on top of picking a longer trail then I meant to we went about half a mile the wrong way because I didn’t check the map/gps after we turned. We were about 2 miles from the car when I realized this.

Sleepy babe

Eventually I just put Charlee in she carrier even though she was screaming and clawing me and after about 10 mins she fell asleep. She also got chocolate zbar all over me.

Millie complained the whole way back that she hates hiking and didn’t want to walk. I carried her on my back for a few minutes but she doesn’t hold on at all so it couldn’t last for long. I kept telling her she was so strong and I knew her feet could get her to the car!

Overall it was a little over 4 miles which is the longest I’ve ever taken Millie. Luckily there was no elevation gain. I’m the end Millie said she wishes she stayed home but that she is STRONG. I hope she is at least a little proud of herself. I sure am! It was a long way for her to walk.
